This copy inscribed by Owen on the half title page: "From the author". The first edition of this work by Robert Dale Owen (1801-1875), an American who served in both the Indiana legislature and Congress. Owen went on to become Charge d'Affaires in Naples, where he met the medium D. D. Home, who fired his interest in Spiritualism. He became a committed proponent of the movement, and his books 'The Debatable Land between This World and the Next,' and 'Footfalls on the Boundary of Another World,' attracted wide attention and popularity. This copy from the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front free endpaper. Spine darkened and chafed, spine ends bruised, corners & edges bumped and rubbed, small Kimberton Castle library shelfmarker on front pastedown.
