The author, John Archibald Ashburner (1793 - 1878) was an Indian-born doctor who did his medical training in Britain, eventually becoming a a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. He was extremely active in Spiritualist circles, a witness to Mrs. Hayden's mediumship, a Committee member of the Mesmeric Infirmary, a member of the Charing Cross Spirit Power Circle, and the author and translator of various works on magnetism and Spiritualism, this volume being one of them. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his blind-stamped ex-libris seal on front free endpaper. Spine ends bruised and rubbed, corners bumped, a few light bumps to edges, pages toned but bright and unmarked. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy. Item #61491
