London: UMA Press (Publishers of Unusual Books), 1946. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. (vi) 324pp (iipp adverts). Original blue cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, gilt Pentacle on upper board. "The Golden Star," subtitled 'A Book for Initiaties' was the most substantial of a number of occult books which the author published under his imprint the UMA press in the years following the Second World War. According to the blurb the book "expounds the most advanced occult teachings, yet in such a fascinating manner as to hold and extend the interest of the novice." The books is divided into 12 'Visions' (Chapters). They are "The Domains of Night, Demons and Devas, Elements and Elementals, Witchcraft, Spiritualism, The Astral Fire, The Symbol of the Cross, The Kosmos, Cosmic Consciousness, The Great Light, The Dwellers in the Celestial Spheres, God." Jean Michaud (1884 - 1961), was a musician, composer and author who had a great passion for Rosicrucian and esoteric studies, and who was for a time a friend of Aleister Crowley's. He was also the founder and long-time head of the Order of the Hidden Masters (OHM), a highly-secretive occult fraternity based in London. Cloth a bit darkened and rubbed overall with a few dark spots to rear board, light bruising and rubbing to spine ends, corners and spine edges. Page edges and endpapers lightly browned and foxed, page toned with a few creased corners. Still a tight, unmarked VG copy (no dust jacket). An extremely scarce title. Item #61583
