Item #61594 Joseph Glanvill and Psychical Research in the Seventeenth Century. H. Stanley REDGROVE, I M. L., Joseph Glanvill.

Joseph Glanvill and Psychical Research in the Seventeenth Century.

London: William Rider & Son, 1921. First Edition. Softcover. Small octavo. 94pp. +iipp. ads. Original yellow limp cloth wrappers. B/w frontisportrait. A volume from Rider's 'Mystics and Occultists' series published in the early 1920s. An unusual study of Joseph Glanvill (1636-1680), the writer, philosopher, and clergyman. Redgrove obviously found much in common between Glanvill - who at once supported rational thought and scientific method, whilst firmly arguing his belief in witchcraft and the supernatural - and the modern 'psychical researcher.' Cloth a little rubbed and darkened - more so at edges and spine, page edges browned, pages a bit browned - some foxing to first and last leaves and a few creased corners, but text clean and unmarked. A VG copy of a fragile publication. Was $45.00. Item #61594
