The Porch. Vol. I, No. 6. October, 1910, (containing the text of ) "The Seven Valleys from the Mantiqu't Tayr of Fariduddin Attar"

London: The Scriptorium / John M. Watkins, 1910. First Edition. Softcover. Small square octavo. 5 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches. 40pp. Original printed soft paper wrappers. The sixth number of this short-lived mystical journal published by John Watkins. Aleister Crowley referred to "The Porch" as an "admirable series" and "a delightful addition to our periodical literature." This number is entirely devoted to a translation of "The Seven Valleys" extracted from the "Mantiqu't Tayr" ("The Conference of the Birds") by the twelfth-century Persian Sufi poet Abu Hamid bin Abu Bakr Ibrahim / Farid ud-Din. Numerals identifying the issue number neatly inked on the otherwise blank spine. Wrappers a little chipped and worn, previous owner's name in upper margin of front wrapper, still a VG+ copy of a very uncommon publication. Item #61618
