Dr Maurice Doreal founded his Brotherhood of the White Temple in the 1930s, and wrote a number of books related to the teachings of his group, most famously his "The Emerald Tablets of Thoth-The-Atlantean." This particular work deals largely with the inhabitants of an Atlantean-like civilization, which he believes once dwelled in the area now known as the Gobi desert.
