The eighth volume in the Echoes from the Gnosis series of eleven volumes edited by Mead and published by the Theosophical Publishing Co. The series of small volumes "was drawn from, or based upon, the mystic, theosophic and gnostic writings of the ancients" so as to make availalbe to a wider audience "some echoes of the mystic experiences and initatory lore of their spiritual ancestry." This volume (actually two volumes in one) collects together 'The Chaldean Oracles': hermetic poetic aphorisms commonly attributed to 'Zoroaster,' but assigned by recent scholarship to Julianus the theurgist, who lived during the third century CE. George Robert Stowe [ G.R.S. ] Mead (1863 - 1933) was an English historian and writer who was a member of the Theosophical Society, as well as the founder of the Quest Society. Light bumping and chafing to spine ends and corners, page edges darkened and lightly foxed, a few creased corners and edges. Overall a tight VG+ copy. Item #61858
