Egyptian Magic; [ Collectanea Hermetica, Vol. VIII ]

London: Theosophical Publishing Society, 1896. First Edition. Hardcover. Small octavo. 88 pp. Blue cloth with gilt title to spine, b&w illustrations. The eighth volume of the "Collectanea Hermetica" series, of which W. Wynn Westcott (1848 – 1925) was the series editor. 'S. S. D. D.' - the initials under which this particular text was published - stand for 'Sapientia Sapienti Dona Data', the magical motto taken by Florence Farr as a member of the Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn. The book is a study of Egyptian magic and rituals. Westcott was of course one of the founders of the Golden Dawn, Supreme Magus of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (SRIA), and Master of Quatuor Coronati Lodge (the well-known London Masonic Lodge devoted to Masonic research). Boards lightly rubbed at points and head and tail of spine, small "bubble" in cloth of front board, a few small ink spots towards the base of the fore-edge of the text-block (NOT bleeding through into margins). Otherwise a clean, VG+ copy. Item #61896
