An early work on hypnotism, mesmerism and suggestion which commences with a chapter on the first effects of mesmerism and concludes with notes on the curative powers of mesmerism. This Fourth Edition includes the Preface by William Stainton Moses which commends the book to Spiritualists that was first published in the Third Edition. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, but not marked as such. Covers a bit rubbed and unevenly faded, a few light bumps to edges, corners and spine ends, page edges and endpapers darkened and lightly foxed, owner's name and bookshop inkstamp of front blank.
