A "new" edition of this anonymous work first published earlier the same year. The author, Charles Maurice Davies (1828–1910) was an Anglican clergyman, a prolific author and spiritualist who published dozens of books anonymously and under various pseudonyms. In 1856 Davies and his wife moved to Paris where he took a position teaching classics and English. His wife began experimenting with automatic writing, and over a number of decades Davies himself gradually committed to the Spiritualist cause, joining the British National Association of Spiritualists. Covers well worn, discoloured and chafed, spine quite darkened with some chipping at ends, endpapers split at front inner hinge, TWO TEXT LEAVES REMOVED (pp. 135 - 138) thus text incomplete.
