Black and white illustrations. Index at front. Founded by James Burns (1833-1894) in April 1870 by merging two existing small Spiritualist newspapers, "The Medium and Daybreak" grew to become the most widely-distributed Spiritualist newspapers in the United Kingdom. It covered all aspects of the Spiritualist movement, from lectures, publications, news, events, etc. as well as articles and letters by various Spiritualist luminaries and others and advertisements. This bound volume comprises the full 51 issues of Vol IX (No. 405, January 4, 1878 - No. 456, Dec. 27, 1878). A wonderful resource. Spine faded, boards lightly rubbed and marked, with cloth fraying at the points. Inside (endpaper) hinges areccracked, but the boards are still firmly connected. One leaf (pp. 407/8) mutilated where someone has cut out a paragraph (about a quarter of the page), pencil notes on verso of front free endpaper. Otherwise the text is clean, firmly bound, and in very good contion for the thin newsprint type paper upon which it is printed.
