Vienna born Bernard Hollander (1864 -1934) became a British citizen in 1894 and practiced psychiatry, hypnosis and phrenology in London. Hollander introduced a new approach to phrenological diagnosis, defining a methodology for measuring the skull, and wrote a number of books including: "Positive Philosophy of the Mind" (L.N. Fowler, 1891), "The Mental Function of the Brain" (1901) and "Scientific Phrenology" (1902), along with this one in which he offers an account of his fifteen years using hypnosis in the treatment of nervous and mental disorders.
