Vienna born Bernard Hollander (1864 -1934) became a British citizen in 1894 and practiced psychiatry, hypnosis and phrenology in London. Hollander introduced a new approach to phrenological diagnosis, defining a methodology for measuring the skull, and wrote a number of books including: "Positive Philosophy of the Mind" (L.N. Fowler, 1891), "The Mental Function of the Brain" (1901) and "Scientific Phrenology" (1902), along with this one in which he offers an account of his fifteen years using hypnosis in the treatment of nervous and mental disorders. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, although not marked as such. Cloth lightly rubbed and darkened, very light warp to rear board, corners and spine ends bruised, page edges darkened, endpapers unevenly browned, pages lightly toned, page edges browned.
