Unflattering b&w frontisportrait of H. P. Blavatsky with the imprinted caption "the greatest imposter in history" beneath it. A critique of the Theosophical Society and H. P. Blavatsky by John Nevil Maskelyne - the first in a well-known family of conjurers. Wrappers darkened and well worn - and are reattached at inner hinges with archival tissue paper, spine heavily chipped and flaking: at some point reinforced with cello tape and possibly glue, pages edges darkened and thumbed with some foxing, pages toned with scattered browning and foxing. Still an unmarked complete Good copy of this scarce fragile edition. Item #62317
