Unflattering b&w frontisportrait of H. P. Blavatsky with the imprinted caption "the greatest imposter in history" beneath it. A critique of the Theosophical Society and H. P. Blavatsky by John Nevil Maskelyne - the first in a well-known family of conjurers. Wrappers darkened and well worn - and are reattached at inner hinges with archival tissue paper, spine heavily chipped and flaking: at some point reinforced with cello tape and possibly glue, pages edges darkened and thumbed with some foxing, pages toned with scattered browning and foxing.
