From the publisher: 'The book is the work of Valentin Arnoldevitch Tomberg (1900-1973), a Russian-born Christian mystic, who was deeply involved in the study of magic and hermeticism for much of his earlier life, converting to Catholicism in his latter years. The work was "written anonymously and published posthumously, as was the author's wish, and draws from the thought and teachings of Jung, and a wide array of mystics, occultists, philosophers, saints, theologians, and others. The author uses the 22 major arcana of the tarot as a means to explore some of humanity's most penetrating spiritual questions, arranging the book in such a way that he hopes that it will enable the the reader to find a relationship with the author in the spiritual dimensions of existence." Reviews are extremely positive, with Antoine Faivre (professor for the History of Esoteric and Mystical Streams in Modern Europe, at the Sorbonne) calling it "The most beautiful and instructive book of the twentieth century concerning Western esotericism."
