Raised bands with gilt stamped leather title-label to spine, with gilt decorations. William Gregory (1803 – 1858) was a Scottish physician and chemist with a strong interest in mesmerism and phrenology who also translated Reichenbach's "Researches on Magnetism" into English. This work collects nineteen "letters" (essays) by Gregory on animal magnetism, hypnotism, mesmerism, suggestion and claivoyance. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the first blank. Spine somewhat faded, leather of corners rubbed, a little pale discoloration to endpapers. Still overall a tight, clean, VG+ copy.
