First published in French in 1961 as "Les Symboles Chrétiens Primitifs". Jean-Guenolé-Marie Daniélou (1905 – 1974) was a French member of the Jesuit order, a Roman Catholic cardinal and a member of the Académie Française who studied early Judaic Christianity. In this volume, Danielou argues that many symbols once thought adopted from Graeco-Roman paganism, such as the crown, the ship and the axe, are Judaic in origin.
