An early edition of this well known study of the relationship between natural science and spiritual life in which Drummond sought to reconcile the theory of evolution with the Christian concept of God. Henry Drummond FRSE (1851 – 11-1897), Scottish evangelist, lecturer, biologist, and author - whose works were extremely influential during his lifetime. This volume includes the following chapters: Biogenesis; Degeneration; Growth; Death; Mortification; Eternal Life; Environment; Conformity to Type; Semi-Parasitism; Parasitism and classification. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, although not marked as such. A bit of light shelf wear, corners and spine ends bumped and chafed with a few tiny tears to upper spine, page edges darkened and foxed, original owner name and date (1885) on title page, a few light pencil underlines to text - else internally clean.
