The first edition of this thoughtful and entertaining study of scrying, from ancient Egypt to John Dee, and on to the Spiritualists of the late nineteenth century. Commences with a lengthy Introduction by renowned Scottish folklorist, Andrew Lang. Light chafing to corners and spine ends, half inch closed and unobtrusive split to cloth at upper spine, page edges and endpapers a little darkened, no marks to text, some pages roughly opened at top edge leaving short tears and chips (no loss of text), no marks to text. Overall a tight, clean better than VG copy in a near VG example of the scarce dust jacket (Light coloured dust jacket is darkened and a bit discoloured overall - more so at spine. Rubbing to all edges, folds & extremities, spine ends lightly chipped, two large chips to upper edge of rear panel, not clipped, now protected by removeable mylar sleeve). Item #62831
