The author, Baird Thomas Spalding (1872–1953), was by his own account one of a research party that visited the Far East in 1894, staying for some three-and-a-half years, during which they "contacted the Great Masters of the Himalayas, who aided us in the translation of the records ... [and] permitted us to enter into their lives intimately ...we were thus able to see the working of the great Law as demonstrated by them." Bairds notes of these experiences, and the teachings that he received, form the contents of these volumes. Contents include: Volume 1: Introduction of the Master Emil. The gilt on the first three volumes is duller than that on the last two (they were printed at different times, and there was a variance in that used. Light rubbing and marks to covers, spine ends and corners lightly bruised and chafed, page edges darkened and lightly foxed, pages toned but internally clean, name and ink stamp on first blank of Vols I, II and III.
