Black cloth spine with blue cloth boards, gilt titling to spine, gilt device to upper board, tipped in colour frontis and plate, numerous b&w illustrations, list of works cited, index. The first edition of this classic study of the Gothic Cathedral, viewed - not just from an architectural and historical viewpoint, but as it would have been seen in the twelfth century: that is as: "the earthly representation of supernatural reality." Light rubbing to boards and edges, lower corners bumped, a few spots of browning to page edges, top edge darkened and dusty. One inch chip and abrasion to loose poster at middle fold. Else all in VG condition, in Good dust jacket (Dust jacket rubbed and a bit discoloured overall, spine faded, all edges rubbed and chipped, not price clipped, now protected by removeable mylar sleeve).
