A collection of Addison's essays from "The Spectator", edited, with critical and explanatory notes by George Washington Greene. Largely philosophical and satirical musings on contemporary society, they include short pieces "On Ghosts and Apparitions" and "On Witchcraft - Story of Moll White." Light rubbing to edges and points, light bumps to upper corners, spine ends bruised and rubbed, page edges darkened, contemporary bookplates to front pastedowns, owner's name on half title pages, tiny old private library numbers on spines, modern bar code on front endpaper of Vol. I, pages browned, pencil marks outside text on a few scattered pages but text is mostly clean and unmarked.
