Item #63122 Japanese Religiosity. Joseph J. SPAE.

Japanese Religiosity.

Tokyo: Oriens Institute for Religious Research, 1971. First Edition. Hardcover. Quarto. vi + 314pp. Mauve silk with copper lettering to front cover and gilt titling to spine, index. The third volume in the "Encounter Series" published by Oriens Institute for Religious Research. The series encompasses studies on the japanological and theological implications of Christian missionary activity in Japan, and is clearly written with the idea of furthering and making that activity more effective through the study of existing patterns of religious thought in Japan. From the auhor's preface: "The present volume centers upon Japan's religiosity reflected not so much in her religious institutions as in the religious awareness of her people. I have left for further examination a host of problems connected with the idea of man, such as his origin and destiny, his moral and religious fulfillment, suffering and death.". Cloth lightly rubbed and darkened, corners bumped and rubbed, spine ends bumped and spine chafed, else a tight, unmarked VG copy (with just the front flap of the dust jacket loosely inserted).
