Isaac (ben Solomon) Luria Ashkenazi (1534 - 1572) Ben Sh'lomo Lurya Ashkenazi), was a foremost Rabbi and Jewish mystic in the community of Safed in the Galilee region of Ottoman Syria. He might be considered the father of contemporary Kabbalah, and while he actually wrote only a few poems, his verbal teachings were referred to as Lurianic Kabbalah, and were compiled in writing after his death.
