Berg compiles the teachings of Isaac (ben Solomon) Luria Ashkenazi (1534 - 1572) Ben Sh'lomo Lurya Ashkenazi), was a foremost Rabbi and Jewish mystic in the community of Safed in the Galilee region of Ottoman Syria. Ashlag wrote only a few poems, but his verbal teachings - which were referred to as Lurianic Kabbalah - were compiled in writing after his death by his followers.
