Oslo Norway: Universitets-forlaget [ Scandinavian University Press ], 1969. First Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. 126pp. Red cloth with gilt lettering to black title panel on spine, gilt and black rules to spine and upper board, indexes and bibliography. A study of the violent war-goddess Anat. It is drawn largely from ancient texts found in the ruins of Ugarit / Ras Shamra but also references the appearance of the Goddess in the mythology of neighbouring regions: Egypt, Greece, Phoenicia, etc. This volume comprises the chapters: I. Similar goddesses in neighboring countries; II. The names of the goddess; III. The family of the goddess; IV. Accompanying minor gods and goddesses; V. Anat's character and tasks; VI. Anats place in pantheon, and the author's conclusions. The author describes the volume as a continuation of his earlier work on the Ugaritic texts - most especially of his volume on "Baal in the Ras Shamra Texts". Light bruising to spine ends and corners, page edges a bit darkened, a few very light pencil underlines etc (minimal - easily ignored or erased) - else a tight generally clean better than VG copy in VG dust jacket (Dust jacket a bit rubbed overall, edges light creased and chipped, not clipped, now protected by removeable mylar sleeve).
