Bligh Bond, an architect by trade, was employed by the Church of England to undertake the excavations at Glastonbury Abbey. A Freemason, Theosophist, and member of both the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia and the Society for Psychical Research, he applied the skills normally associated with psychism and Spiritualism, in addition to the more conventional archaeological and historical means when executing his task. This brought down the wrath of the Church hierarchy, who eventually dismissed him. "The Company of Avalon" is effectively a supplement to the author's well-known "The Gate of Remembrance" and deals with the early history of the Abbey as recounted through automatic writing said to have been transmitted from "Brother Symon," a twelfth-century monk. Spine ends bruised and a little rubbed, cloth a little darkened, top corners bumped. Pages evenly tanned, owner's name in blue pencil on front free endpaper. A clean, solid VG+ copy (no dust jacket).
