The first edition of this unusual psychological study of nightmares, in three parts. The first part, which was first published in the dauntingly-titled "American Journal of Insanity" explores the pathology of the nightmare, the second part the connection between the experience of nightmare and witches, about the incubus and succubus, vampires and werewolves, etc. The third part is titled "The Mare and the Mara: A Psycho-Analytical Contribution to Etymology" and looks at the connection between the horse and the night-fiend, superstition, sexuality, etc. Published more recently as "On the Nightmare". Very light bruising to spine ends and corners, cloth at spine ends faded, edges darkened, pages toned - unmarked. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy in Good dust jacket (Striking dust jacket is a bit worn at all edges with a number of good sized chips at edges and spine ends, spine faded, not clipped, now protected by a removeable mylar sleeve).
