Item #63701 My Life and Loves ( 4 volume set ). Frank HARRIS.

My Life and Loves ( 4 volume set ).

Paris: Obelisk Press, 1945 - 1952. Mixed Printings. Softcovers. 4 volume set. Octavos. 228 + 290 + 176 + 178pp. Heavy grey paper wrappers with titling in black and red. Each volume has ""Must Not be Imported into England or U.S.A." printed on the rear cover. Mixed printings, 1945 - 1952. The famous French Obelisk Press edition of Frank Harris' erotic autobiography "My Life and Loves" which caused great scandal when it was published, and predictably was banned in Britain and U.S.A. at the time of its publication, and for many years thereafter. Frank Harris (1856-1931) was a prolific British writer, journalist, publisher and general scoundrel. Harris had a long and rather leech-like relationship with Aleister Crowley, with each seemingly trying to benefit from their relationship with the other. "My Life and Loves" is without doubt one of his most enduring, and readable, works. Large chip and ugly tape repair to front wrapper of Vol. I. Wrappers darkened, cheap paper browned. A well worn set, but still solid and a perfectly acceptable reference set. Item #63701
