Thoth Tarot Cards [ Tarot Deck ].

New York: Samuel Weiser, ND [1973]. First Weiser Edition. 78 tarot cards in original 2 part box. Card size 5 1/2" x 3 3/4". Original printed outer slipcase with thumb-notches, cardboard inner box with gilt metallic finish covering and thumb notches. An early (first?) printing of the first Weiser publication of the Thoth Tarot deck (sometimes known as "White Box B.") This first Weiser edition was published in conjunction with Llewellyn in 1973 - who simultaneously produced several printings under their own imprint. It followed the first colour printing of the full Thoth deck by Llewellyn in 1972 (not 1969, as is commonly but erroneously thought) and was published with the collaboration of Grady McMurtry (then Caliph of the O.T.O), Lee Heflin, and Gerald Yorke. The early printings of the Weiser "White Box B" are distinguishable in that two of the cards carry errors that were carried over from the "White Box A" printing: the "Eight of Cups" lacks the numeral that is normally stamped in the upper margin, and the image on the "Ace of Disks" is printed upside down. This edition was not accompanied by an explanatory booklet, but it SHOULD have a separate card (known as "the Caliph card") with a short explanatory text, and the contact details for Hymenaeus Alpha - Grady L. McMurtry. Unfortunately this set is lacking the Caliph card. The cards themselves are overall in VG or better condition, a little light wear and a few marks (which may wipe off). The inner box shows some rubbing as always, the outer box is a bit grubby and is starting to split at the top front fold, and the bottom left corner. Sensibly priced according to condition.
