Item #63889 Moonchild. Aleister CROWLEY.

Moonchild.

New York, NY: Dove Press & Samuel Weiser Inc., ND [ 1970 ]. First Edition thus. Hardcover. Octavo. 336pp. Salmon-colored cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine. Crowley's famous second novel - with the addition of an anonymous page of verse at the front. This edition was a collaborative effort between Kenneth Anger's Dove Press and Samuel Weiser Publishing. As far as we can determine it is the first North American edition of the book - and actually the first reissue of it since the original 1929 Mandrake Press edition - preceding the "regular" Samuel Weiser Inc. edition of December 1970 by several months. The book famously tells the tale of a young woman caught up in a battle between two magicians, one of whom seeks to use her body as the vessel for the 'birth' in human form of a non-human entity: "the Moonchild" of the title. Spine ends and corners lightly bruised and chafed, small abrasion and pinhead size hole to cloth at upper edge of front board, small snag to cloth at lower edge of rear board, page edges darkened, pages toned, a bit of scattered browning but unmarked. Overall a tight VG copy in near VG dust jacket. (Dust jacket is lightly rubbed and creased overall, small chip at top edge of front panel, barely visible discolored "stripe" across to lower section of rear panel, not clipped). Now protected by removable mylar sleeve. Item #63889
