Three Books of Occult Philosophy ( Llewellyn's Sourcebook Series ).

St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Publications, 1998. Fourth Printing, Deluxe binding. Hardcover. Small thick quarto. lxxii + 938pp + 10pp. ads. B/w illustrations. The softcover edition, privately rebound as a hardcover. Full black leather, with raised bands, elaborate gilt embellishments and gilt-stamped dark maroon leather title-label to spine, marbled endpapers. Index. A significant edition with extensive commentary by Donald Tyson - author of "Liber Lilith". Agrippa's "Three Books of Occult Philosophy" is arguably one of the most important and influential books on Magic ever published: it has been cited (and plagiarized) constantly since its publication. John Dee is said to have practically memorized it, and familiarity with it is said to be crucial to an understanding of his Enochian system of magic, later explored and developed by members of the Golden Dawn, including their enfant terrible, Aleister Crowley. Sadly - and oddly - this important edition was not released as a hardcover, but Donald Weiser had a small number of copies bound thus for purchase by select customers. This is one of those copies. A hint of rubbing to the boards, finger smudge to page fore-edge, otherwise a near-Fine copy. Item #64007
