Volume I: xiv + 134pp; Volume II: vii + 310pp. Red papered boards elaborately illustrated in gilt on upper boards, numerous b&w illustrations and maps, 5 large fold-outs. A facsimile of this two volume set, which were originally published in 1914 / 1926 respectively as volumes XXXVIII & L of the New Imperial Series of the Archaeological Survey of India. By the renowned German Tibetologist August Hermann Francke (1870 – 1930) who served as a Moravian missionary in Ladakh from 1896 until 1909. The original full titles of the volumes give a good idea of their contents: Vol. I: Personal Narrative Of A Journey In 1910 From Simla To Srinagar; Through Kinnaur, Spiti And Ladakh. For The Express Purpose Of Investigating The Buddhist Antiquities; Vol. II: contains the original Tibetan text plus translations of "The Chronicles Of Ladakh" (the "La dvags royal rabs", "Royal Chronicle of the Kings of Ladakh" compiled in the 17th century) and "Minor Chronicles." Boards a little rubbed and slightly darkened, else appears unread- thus a tight, internally bright and unmarked VG+ set (no dust jacket issued).
