Item #64238 The Rosicrucian Enlightenment. Frances A. YATES.

The Rosicrucian Enlightenment.

London: Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1974. First Edition, Second Printing. Hardcover. Octavo. xvi + 270 pp. Green cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, b&w frontispiece and illustrations, appendix, index. An attractive early reprint of Dame Frances Yeats' now-classic study of the Rosicrucian manifestos that appeared in early seventeenth century Germany and the movements that evolved from them. Yeats suggest that these manifestos were connected with movements inspired by John Dee in Bohemia during the reign of Queen Elizabeth, and examines in detail the history and thought of the Hermetic tradition that blossomed at that time. As could be expected there are numerous references to Dee, his life and works. Slight darkening of cloth, spine ends and corners lightly bruised, page edges darkened, top edge foxed, pages a little browned (as common) - with scattered pencil underlining to text. Still, overall a tight, VG copy in VG dust jacket. (Dust jacket a little rubbed, short horizontal tear to back panel, price clipped. Now protected in removable mylar sleeve.). Item #64238
