Item #64275 Magic, White and Black: The Science of Finite and Infinite Life, containing Practical Hints for Students of Occultism. Franz HARTMANN.

Magic, White and Black: The Science of Finite and Infinite Life, containing Practical Hints for Students of Occultism.

New York: Macoy, 1928. "Eighth American edition, revised" Hardcover. Octavo. 292pp. Original maroon cloth lettered in gilt on spine & front board. B/w frontis. & several text illustrations. First published in 1886, this is a nice older reprint of one of the best known works of Franz Hartmann (1838 - 1912) the Bavarian-American writer, physician, theosophist, occultist, geomancer, astrologer, who was part of the late nineteenth century German esoteric milieu that gave birth to organizations like the O.T.O. Hartmann was quite clear that true magic - as he saw it - did not involve specific ritual or ceremonial, but rather a development of individual spiritual powers. In 'Magic Black and White,' he sought to expose the claims of false magic, and to offer instead a description of the conditions and practices that were necessary for spiritual development. Spine very slightly faded, spine ends and corners lightly bruised and rubbed, top page edge darkened, fore-edge browned and lightly foxed, pages lightly toned but clean and unmarked. Overall a tight, bright VG+ copy (no dust jacket). Item #64275
