The Sword of Moses. An Ancient Book of Magic. From an unique manuscript. With Introduction, Translation, an Index of Mystical Names, and a Facsimile.

New York, NY: Samuel Weiser Inc., 1970. First Weiser printing. Hardcover. Octavo. (iv) + 52 + xxxvi pp. Green faux leather, gilt title, etc. to spine and front cover, b&w illustration. English translation & original Hebrew text. "The Sword of Moses" is a 13th or 14th century Hebrew book of magic, the text of which Moses Gaster first published, along with translation and commentaries, in 1896. Gaster himself thought the text to date from somewhere between the 4th and 11th centuries CE. The original manuscript, which was in his personal collection, is now in the British Library, MS Or. 10678. The Hebrew text, which starts at what would typically be the rear of the book in a non-Hebrew volume, has a frontispiece photograph of a page from the original manuscript. Covers rubbed with a faded rectangle and large scratch to upper board, spine ends and corners bruised and lightly chafed, pages edges a bit darkened & thumbed. Pages toned with a few spots of browning - but still generally bright & unmarked. A solid, tight internally VG+ copy, it's overall condition a little marred by the marks on the front cover. (no dust jacket issued with this volume). Item #64464
