The 1st of a series of "Theosophical Manuals" which were designed to "meet the public demand for a simple exposition of Theosophical teachings". This one by Annie Besant (1847–1933) a prominent British socialist, Theosophist, women's rights activist. Besant was a prolific writer and powerful orator, who became the president of the Theosophical Society and produced a vast body of literature explaining and exploring Theosophical thought and belief. Cloth a bit rubbed and darkened - more so at spine and edges of boards, corners and spine ends bruised and chafed, page edges and pages darkened, old address label on front blank, pages toned. Unmarked. Overall a tight, clean VG copy. Scarce in early editions. Item #64478
