Original red cloth with blind-stamped borders to upper board, gilt lettering to spine, b&w frontisportrait, printed endpapers. The foundation work on Vitapathy, a form of alternative medicine which combined spiritualism, memsmerism, and spirit healing. The author, J. B. Campbell, ran a popular Vitapathic School in Cincinnati, Ohio where one could study both his own form of medicine and Spiritualism, and which offered a degree as a Vitapathic Doctor (VD) on completion of the course. It is hard not to think that the system was not inspired at least in part by the "Medical Electricity" which noted spiritualist Emma Hardinge Britten touted in the 1870s. Generally shows signs of a good bit of ordinary use - cloth a bit rubbed and darkened- particularly at spine, spine ends and corners bruised and rubbed, white mark (paint) on upper spine, corners and spine ends bruised, page edges darkened, pages toned.
