The Secrets of Dr. Taverner.

London: Noel Douglas, ND [ 1926 ]. First Edition. Hardcover. Small octavo. 254pp. White cloth spine with blue papered boards, black titling to spine, b&w illustrations. The first edition of this collection of eleven detective stories with occult themes. There are at least four known binding variants - this is the one with a white cloth spine and blue papered boards (precedence of issue has not been established). From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Spine a bit darkened and slightly canted, spine ends and corners lightly bumped and chafed, light rubbing to boards with a discolored/rubbed patch in centre of upper board. Pages and edges lightly toned and with a little scattered foxing. Some pages uncut. Overall a tight clean better than VG copy. (no dust jacket). Scarce edition. Item #64802
