The Esoteric Philosophy of Love and Marriage.

London: William Rider & Son, Limited, 1924. First Edition. Hardcover. Small octavo. viii + 132pp + iv adverts. Original light grey cloth with black title, etc. to spine and front cover, black borders. Dion Fortune's study of marriage - by which she means human romantic and sexual relationships - from an esoteric perspective. Contents: The Modern Conditions of Marriage; The Origin of Matter and Man; The Evolution of Man; The Seven Planes of Existence; The Sevenfold Man; Esoteric Concept of Life and Death; Evolution and Initiation; Esoteric Concept of Sex; Interaction Between Positive and Negative upon the Non-physical Planes; Polarity on the Physical Plane; The Ideal Marriage. The text is somewhat dated - and often unintentionally humorous - but Fortune enthusiasts insist it still contains valuable insights. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Cloth lightly rubbed and darkened, more so at spine, endpapers unevenly browned - pages toned but still bright and unmarked, else a tight, clean VG + copy. (no dust jacket). Item #64825
