The Book of Lies; Which is Also Falsely Called Breaks, The Wanderings or Falsifications of the one thought of Frater Perdurabo (Aleister Crowley) which thought is itself untrue. A Reprint with an Additional Commentary to each Chapter

New York, NY: Samuel Weiser Inc., 1970. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Octavo. 196pp + iv pp adverts. Black cloth with gold title, etc. to spine, frontis, b/w illustrations. The first printing of the Weiser edition of one of Crowley's most important, and cryptic works. He wrote of it: "this book deals with many matters on all planes of the very highest importance. It is an official publication for Babes of the Abyss, but is recommended even to beginners as highly suggestive." From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. The label can easily be removed without affecting the page, although it would be a shame not to preserve this record of the book's provenance. Spine ends bruised and a bit rubbed, gold lettering on spine slightly faded, faint offset from dust jacket to lower rear board, owner's name in pen on front blank, page edges and endpapers darkened. Some small chips - possibly a printing flaw - to the bottom edge margins of about a dozen leaves towards the end of the book. Despite a bit of use, overall a tight, clean VG copy in Good+ dust jacket ( Dust jacket is bit worn overall, rear panel darkened, light chafing and creasing to all edges and extremities with a few short tears and small chips, Skoob bookshop label on inside front flap. Now protected in mylar protective sleeve). Item #64841
