The 777 Tarot [ Book only - not deck ]; Book only

NP [ UK ]: Twicen Books, 2002. First Edition. Softcover. Book only. Octavo. 302pp. B&w illustrations. This copy SIGNED by the author on the first blank leaf and dated 10/10/2002. Amado Crowley [Andrew Standish, 1930-2010], claimed to have been the illegitimate son of Aleister Crowley and to have received occult training from the Beast, although these assertions are generally dismissed by Crowley scholars. Regardless of the veracity of his claims he was an interesting character and committed occultist. The publisher desribes this volume thus: "At the age of thirteen, Amado's grandmother gave him a unique set of handmade tarot cards and taught him how to use them. He has now published these, completely re-drawn, as The 777 Tarot. This deck is half as large again as any that you might know. The twenty page introduction is followed by a complete explanation of all the cards in the pack along with an illustration of each new design. At the back of the book all of the original cards are illustrated." From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. The label can easily be removed without affecting the page, although it would be a shame not to preserve this record of the book's provenance. Covers lightly rubbed, "Signed Copy" label on front cover, edges lightly chafed, price sticker rear cover, otherwise a tight, clean VG+ copy. Item #64856
