Octavo. viii + 177pp. Blue cloth lettered in gilt on spine, blind borders and device to upper board, bibliography and index. The scarce first US edition of Dudley Wright's survey of vampire myths and stories. It appears to comprise UK sheets (presumably from the Rider edition) with a cancel title-page with David McKay Publishers' imprint and a US binding. Contents: Introductory, Excommunication and its Power, The Vampire in Babylonia, Assyria, and Greece, Vampirism in Great and Greater Britain, Vampirism in Germany and Surrounding Countries, Vampirism in Hungary, Bavaria, and Silesia, Vampirism in Servia and Bulgaria, Vampire Beliefs in Russia, Miscellanea, Living Vampires, The Vampire in Literature, Fact or Fiction? Bibliography. Cloth lightly rubbed overall, spine and spine edges of boards quite heavily faded, light bruising and rubbing to spine ends and corners, page edges darkened, endpapers heavily browned, bookshop sticker and penciled ownership name on front blank. Endpaper hinges cracked but boards firmly attached, a very few (less than 20) pages with penciled underline and notes (easily erased) - else a tight, clean VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #64924
