Reprint. Softcover. Small octavo. x + 182pp (+iipp). Original printed wrappers. FRENCH TEXT Theodore Tiffereau (1819-1909) was a French photographer and alchemist. In the 1850s he travelled to Mexico, where he worked as a daguerreotypist and carried out alchemical experiments. He claimed to have succeeded in transmuting a copper and silver alloy into gold, and presented the French Academy of Sciences with a series of papers on the subject. This volume reproduces those papers, along with an essay, "Paracelse et l'alchimie au XVIe siècle" by M. Franck, and other material. Small tear in spine. Pages mostly unopened (uncut). Small tissue repair to first leaf of Preface, pages toned, slight separation at inner margin of first few leaves. General light signs of use for a book of that vintage. Still a VG+ copy of an uncommon work. Item #64985
