Item #65071 The Necronomicon. Edits, Introduces, L. K. Barnes James Wasserman, original drawing.

The Necronomicon.

New York: Schlangekraft Inc. / Barnes Graphics, 1981. Third Edition, Limited. Hardcover. Quarto. lviii + 222pp. Original black grained (faux?) leather, ornately lettered & decorated with silver title on spine & title and decorations on front cover. All edges silver. Black and white diagrams. The Third Edition (revised) of the Simon version of the Necronomicon, limited to 3,333 hand numbered copies. The three individuals responsible for the work are: 'Simon' who "provided the manuscript " (but is now known to be its author, generally identified as Peter Levenda); L. K. Barnes, who illustrated and acted as publisher, and James Wasserman, who produced and designed the book . All three are mentioned at some length in the Preface. Boards lightly rubbed overall, spine ends and corners are bruised and chafed with minor loss, there is an unobtrusive one inch closed tear in the leather of the upper front hinge (board still firmly attached), gilt at top edge a bit rubbed, pages lightly age toned but clean and unmarked. Someone has very neatly stencilled (?) a hand with a pentagram design (the whole slightly smaller than a cigarette packet) on the front pastedown. This is so well done that it appears to be original to the book, although it isn't. Overall a solid VG copy (no dust jacket issued with this volume). Item #65071
