Item #65094 The Diary of a Drug Fiend. Aleister CROWLEY.

The Diary of a Drug Fiend.

New York, NY: Samuel Weiser, 1970. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Octavo. xii + 368pp. Pictorial Wrappers. Thus first softcover Weiser edition of Crowley's famous novel of addiction, magick and redemption. Published the same year as several hardcover editions, it is arguably the first mass market edition of the book, and one of the first reprints since the original editions of 1922/1923. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. The label can easily be removed without affecting the page, although it would be a shame not to preserve this record of the book's provenance. A much read copy - covers rubbed and creased, all edges and extremities bruised & chafed, creasing to spine with a one inch tear to front edge of lower spine, page edges a bit darkened and thumbed, previous owner's details inside front cover, pages lightly toned but unmarked- a tight, clean Good copy of a comparatively uncommon edition.
