The text of this first German language edition is translated from the 1971 revised edition of John Symond's biography of Crowley "The Great Beast." That reissue reflected the changes in society that had taken place since the original publication of the book in 1951 and went into far greater detail about Crowley's use of sex and drugs as well as incorporating additional material that was originally published separately in Symond's "The Magic of Aleister Crowley." The German edition also includes a 15 page afterword by the Publishers: "Nachwort des herausgebers: Aleister Crowley - Meister der Wandlungen" by Wolfgang Bauer. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications.
