A review by "R.N.J.A."in "Studies in Comparative Religion," Vol. 4, No. 3. (Summer, 1970) describes the work as follows: '"The Book of the Book," which purports to be an object lesson in the problem of the container and the content, consists of some fifteen pages of print bound together with over 250 blank pages. The first pages of the book consist of nine episodes of the story of a book left to his disciples by "a wise man". After his death the disciples opened the book and found that it contained only one sentence: "When you realize the difference between the container and the content, you will have knowledge".' Some see it as a profound teaching in the tradition of Sufi tricksters, others as a literary gimmick. Very light bruising to spine ends and corners, page edges a bit darkened and paper lightly toned, bookshop sticker on rear blank. Else a tight, bright near Fine copy in VG + dust jacket (Dust jacket is very lightly rubbed at edges, not clipped. Now protected in removable mylar cover). Item #65170
