Transcendental Magic: Its Doctrine and Ritual.

Upper cover decorated in gilt with an ornamental design incorporating six hexagrams, framed by two sets of double rules. Lettered on upper cover and spine in gilt. Top edge gilt, bottom and fore-edges untrimmed. Frontispiece portrait and seven full page black and white plates, sixteen processed-engraved drawings in text. The US edition of extensively revised 1923 printing of Waite's translation of Levi's "Transcendental Magic." Dr. R. A. Gilbert observes that Waite had been unable to provide a fully annotated translation of the text in his original publication of the work in 1896, but did so for this edition: "The annotations are extensive, for Waite had worked on them sporadically for seven years." [Gilbert B18(c)] Gilbert does not list the US printing, which came out the same year as the British, and almost certainly used the same sheets but with a different title-page Includes all original engravings and a portrait of the Author. Cover a little dulled and with a few light marks, corners bruised and with some chafing, head and tail of spine similarly chafed. End paper hinges have been professionally and almost invisibly reinforced, preserving the original endpapers. Several dozen pages, and most of the plates, have extensive neat, light, pencil underlining or (in the case of the plates) annotation. Given a very soft eraser and considerable time and care, it would theoretically be possible to remove this but if you are offended by penciling it is probably better to find another copy. Overall a solid, tight, VG or better copy (no dust jacket). Item #65206
