The City of God.
The City of God.

The City of God.

London: The O.T.O., 1943. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Large Octavo. ii + 12pp. Original thick paper wrappers. Frontis portrait photograph of Crowley smoking a pipe. Printed at the Chiswick Press on fine mould-made paper. Edition limited to 200 signed and numbered copies, this copy is numbered 104 - but (as with most copies seen) it is NOT signed. Crowley wrote the poem during his travels in pre-revolutionary Russia, and first published it in The English Review in 1914 and then in this, its first separate publication, in 1943. He recalled in his 'Confessions' that "I expressed the soul of Moscow in a poem "The City of God" .... it is a "hashish dream come true." This is the first publication of the text in book form. The poem is followed by the text of "Liber Oz" (Liber LXXVII): a concise lyrical statement of the basic rights of man under his creed of Thelema. A hint of darkening and a little creasing to the wrappers where they overlap the text block, otherwise a lovely, fresh near Fine copy. Item #65312
