Item #65516 Satan's Power: A Deviant Psychotherapy Cult. William Sims BAINBRIDGE.

Satan's Power: A Deviant Psychotherapy Cult.

Berkeley, CA: University of California Press, 1978. First edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. viii + 312pp. Purple cloth lettered in gilt on spine. B/w illustrations. Bibliography & index. The author refers to this as being "an analytical ethnography and psychohistory" of a "satanic" and "deviant psychotherapy cult" started in 1963 in Boston which he identifies as "The Power." In fact the book is apparently a thinly-veiled study of the "Process Church of the Final Judgment," the well-known quasi-occult countercultural movement that flourished in the late 1960s-early 1970s, with only the names changed, presumably to protect from litigation. Page edges unevenly browned, erasure mark to front blank, very light bumps to corners and spine ends - else a solid and unmarked VG+ in VG dust jacket (Dust jacket a bit rubbed and creased at edges and folds, a few tiny closed tears to edges, not closed. Dust jacket now protected by removable mylar dust jacket cover). Item #65516
